Automatic Eye was founded in late 2005 when singer/guitarist Pete and bassplayer Heikki decided to take an ambitious step forward in their musical careers. Through former and still existing bands like Fake, Prinston, Caroline and their short mutual project Japani the guys formed a band that could stop the long road of frustration playing in a group that doesnt really inspire you.
After their Japani-project was faded away Pete and Heikki still were in touch because they had found their own soulmate. Its not like we are both just fanatic beer drinkers and listen to Danko Jones (although we do both). Theres this connection between us what is hard to explain. We have similar philosophy of life and we get along so well. Maybe thats the reason why there are just the two of us in this band. We dont want to jeopardise this functional combination that we have here.
Talking on the phone nearly every Sunday through year 2005 the band laughed together to their mistakes they had made every weekend while partying. It was hilarious time. You could count on that the other side was also in so bad condition mentally and physically that you didnt have to be so restless about your own mistakes. The bright side of these phonecalls was the fact that the birth of Automatic Eye was in progress and after a while guys started to send each other songs that they had recorded at their crappy home studios.
Common style of music was found easily. The first song we ever wrote (Away from sunshine) is the corner stone of Automatic Eye: making listeners to feel good. The lyrics in our songs are written from real life because we want to be honest and open to our listeners. At the same time our listeners can relate to us because we want to make different type of songs to different moods that people are going through. We still believe that its what the music is all about.
Automatic Eye booked a studio and started rehearsing songs for the studio in late 2005. January dilemma-sessions were finished with the help of Caroline-drummer Tommy. In my whole career I have never been in a studio session where everything goes so fluently, Pete says.
The songs from January dilemma have been available for download from the Internet. The word of mouth from our fans has been a great help for the band by so far. With astonishing amount of downloads before the launch of their website the band is currently getting ready for their second studio session in May. After that Automatic Eye will hit the road and find their way from underground to the on the ground.
